Pennsylvania Technology Inventory
|
| Is this required? |
|---|
|
LEAs (districts, career and technology centers, and charter schools) that are participating in state technology-related programs are required to complete surveys contained in both the Technology and Instructional PATI phases. Such technology-related programs include Act 183 e-Fund, Classrooms for the Future (CFF), Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT), Technology Integration Mentors, Keystones, etc. By combining data from the PATI Technology and Instructional phases, a comprehensive analysis can be made relative to the impact of technology in Pennsylvania schools. Primarily PATI is of direct benefit to the LEAs as a tool to help make informed decisions relative to the essential conditions for the effective uses of technology. Such conditions include effective practices in teaching and learning, educator proficiency, robust access, digital equity, and leadership. In addition data from these surveys is used by PDE to assess the impact of grant initiatives and other state programs related to technology and learning. Data are used to provide assistance to policymakers in the Commonwealth related to the status of education technology in general. Also note that as new technology program opportunities come along, there are eligibility guidelines that accompany these programs. By having PATI completed, this helps in providing PDE a comprehensive picture of your LEA and allows us to better align your data with eligibility requirements. |
| Creating an Account |
|
We are using a new survey system this year! Even if you completed the PATI survey last year you will need to create a new account.
|
| Your account was not created because the user name you entered is already in use by another user. |
|
Usernames are unique in our system. Since there is more than likely numerous participants with the same first initial and last name, we encourage you to use middle initials, alternate names or something that you will remember that uniquely identifies you.
Principals and District Tech Directors will have access to a list of all usernames within their jurisdiction. We hope that this will make remembering your usernames for next year's surveys that much easier! |
| Can I change my username? |
| No. Once you have chosen your username during the account creation process, it is locked in by the system. You can update your name, email address, secret question, and password in your profile. |
| Can't find your access key? |
|
Access keys have been standardized this year! In order to make it easier on you, we have chosen to use your unique state school ID in combination with your role to create your Access Key. Don't know your State School ID? Look it up! EDNA Database
Access Key Format (trade 0000 for your unique 4 digit state school ID):
|
| Locked out of your account? |
|
Are you seeing the following: Access denied. Your account on this system has been locked out. Please contact the system administrator for assistance. You may become locked out of your account after entering an incorrect password multiple times. We can unlock your account for you easily. Send an email to our support team with your user name and we will unlock your account for you. |
| I've entered the incorrect access key, what now? |
|
If you are an administrator and entered the teacher code or a teacher and entered the administrator code, you can easily change your codes in the system. Login to your account then click the My Surveys link on the menu. Use the red X to the left of the surveys name to remove it from your account. Then click the Add New Survey button and enter the correct code for your survey.
We cannot change a survey association! Once you have clicked the start button, your survey is locked to that school and district. |
| Getting an "Invalid Access Key" message? |
| We have found that copying/pasting from a PDF will sometimes result in an "Invalid Access Key" message. This happens because the system does not interpret the characters correctly. Please type in your code directly instead of copying/pasting. This should allow you to access the surveys. |
| Find a Question Confusing? |
Check out our glossary!Have questions regarding content or how you a questions applies to you? Email Lenny Sweeney at PDE with your question. Please include which survey and page you are referring to. |
| What browsers can I use to take the survey? |
|
All current browsers are supported by the survey software. This includes IE 7 for PC, Safari for Mac and Firefox 2.x for both PC and Mac.
Browsers that are not supported include IE for Mac and any version of the AOL browser. |
| Where do I Find my Professional Personnel ID (PPID)? |
|
On the PDE home page, choose the link to "Act 48 Reporting system" on the left. Then choose "Get my professional personnel ID." Input your personal information and you'll receive the ID. If you have questions or don't have an ID, contact the Bureau of School Leadership and Teacher Quality.
Note that PATI uses these PPIDs exclusively in an aggregate format to determine statewide trends in educational technology and not for individual identification. The PATI system and the PPID website are not linked in any way, nor will they be in the future. |
| What is the Reason for Asking for My Professional Personnel ID (PPID)? |
|
Schools throughout the Commonwealth are able to take advantage of an unprecedented number of state administered technology programs such as Classrooms for the Future (CFF), Act 183 eFund, Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT), Keystone Technology Integrators and others. Bringing these opportunities to schools requires a means to collect data relative to the impact of technology related to effective leadership and teaching practices. The surveys that comprise PATI are a critical part of this data collection, hence they are required for schools receiving statewide technology-related funding.
In order to provide a more comprehensive picture of this data, we have enhanced this year's PATI surveys to include the Professional Personnel Identification (PPID) number and, if applicable, the Classrooms for the Future (CFF) teacher ID. These IDs are used exclusively in an aggregate format to determine statewide trends in educational technology and not for individual identification. |
| I was Sent a School Administrator Access Code for the PATI Instructional Phase. Do All Administrators Within a School Complete PATI? |
| Each school was sent an access code for administrators. Only ONE administrative response is required for a school. Individually each school can determine how best to gather the information for the responses and who on the local administrative team should be involved. |
| Do ALL Teachers Participate in the PATI Instructional Phase? If So, Do All Teachers Use the Same Access Code provided for their School? |
|
Yes, participation in PATI includes all teachers and all teachers use the same teacher access code that was provided to their school.
PATI is designed for content area teachers with regular classrooms. The surveys do not apply to other stuff such as school nurses, counselors, librarians, etc. To see if you should complete the survey, you can review the questions in PDF format on the survey website. |
| I want to find out who has completed the survey at my school/district. |
Access Keys were emailed to district tech directors on 4/25/08. If you did not receive an email and believe you should have, please email support to have access information emailed to you.
Respondent information is updated once a day at midnight.
School administrators have access respondents for their own school only! They do not need to add an access key to their account; their administrator survey code provides them this already. |
| Is this anonymous? |
|
Yes, teacher survey responses are anonymous. You are asked to enter your information and create an account for record keeping purposes only. Principals and district techs will be able to see who has taken the survey, but not what individual responses are. By creating an account, you are giving us the ability to tell which school you are from and link your responses to the appropriate location. Your account information is only used to help you access your survey and allow you to save and come back later.
To ensure that you are anonymous, we require a minimum number of teachers per school to complete the survey so your responses cannot be singled out. |
| Do Both Classrooms for the Future (CFF) Teachers and Non-CFF Participate in the Instructional Phase of PATI? |
|
Yes, participation in PATI includes all CFF and non-CFF teachers. In addition, school administrators will be participating in PATI.
The Instructional Phase of PATI is intended to provide an overview of the impact of technology in Pennsylvania schools. Questions revolve around the changes in instructional practice, gains in student achievement, and the professional development provided to teachers. The key is to get a sense of technology's impact in the areas just mentioned, as well as determine how 21st century skills are being integrated into classrooms. We have taken time to work with individuals from CFF so that PATI is aligned to the CFF teacher survey instruments. This work helped to prevent duplication of questions. You will see the linkages when the PATI survey asks for CFF teachers to enter their CFF Teacher ID. Think of PATI as providing the broader picture of technology within a school and the CFF teacher surveys as looking at specific areas within the CFF classroom. Both are essential in determining an overall impact. |
| Where do I find my CFF ID and what if it's only 6 digits long? |
|
The CFF Teacher ID is available on the CFF Evaluation Dashboard. CFF Data Collectors should supply teachers at their schools with their IDs.
If your CFF Teacher ID is only 6 digits long, it is because when IDs are downloaded, Excel removes leading 0's from numbers. This can be rectified in two ways:
|
| What are the minimum requirements to generate a report for my LEA? |
We are looking for the following minimum requirements to generate a report for your LEA:
In order to adjust for size, we are looking for a minimum of 10 teachers at CTC's and 5 teachers at Charter Schools. |
